The South Collection – an interactive project by Darija Medic.
The South Collection is an attempt to understand the institutionalization of public spaces through appropriating soon-to-be-torn-down buildings as public sculptures. Prior to Plovdiv, the project was implemented on the façade of the Dutch Center for Visual Arts, where the idea was to go against the understanding of public space as an open, participatory space for debate. An audio guide with fragments from interviews with well known artists talking about their work is also part of the project. The South Collection will be adapted especially for Plovdiv’s monument to the soldiers who have died for Bulgaria, known as Bratska Mogila, in view of its possible future uses.
The South Collection is part of the platform Open Call for Projects of the Open Arts Foundation.
