13 September - exhibition, perfomance art
The first auction of original Bulgarian avanguard art will be held on 13 September 2014, 7.00 p.m., at the ground floor conference hall of the Trimontium Princess Hotel. All paintings and objects will be on view from 7.00 p.m., the auction will start at 7.30 p.m.
For several decades, Gavazov’s work was largely unknown and apocryphal, but has recently become an object of much interest among researchers and admirers, opening an unexpected perspective on the history of Bulgarian avanguard art and its international significance. The artist experimented with a variety of artistic techniques and strategies, rare examples for which have survived and will be available for viewing and purchase at the auction: sketches, drawings, oil paintings, objects, sculpture and others, all of them evidence of his exceptional talent. Gavazov has been an influence for a number of well-known and still emerging artists, whose works will also be offered at the auction. The preceding exhibition will offer a new interpretation of Bulgaria’s cultural tradition and add a long-missing, invaluable page in the history of Bulgarian avanguard art from the middle of the 20th century to the 1980s.
The proceeds will be used to establish the First Kinetic Museum in the Balkans, in the Kyuchuk Parizh Quarter in Plovdiv (FKMBKPP).
