Plovdiv through the lens of the first photographers

Ivan Vazov National Library in Plovdiv and Regional State Archive directorate in Plovdiv present an exhibition of pictures by photographers who worked in Plovdiv in the period before the Liberation to the end of World War I. Part of the photographs which the archive and the library have preserved in their repositories have remained unknown and provide the opportunity to rediscover events, faces and places in our city recorded visually and kept only in the collections of the two institutions. The combination of cognitive information for the researchers and the popular knowledge for the lovers of history and the artistic black-and-white photography make the exhibition a document of the cultural history of Plovdiv. The consultant of the project is the famous Bulgarian photographer Ivo Hadjimishev.
The exhibition presents 20 panels - in the selection of the authors were considered the uniqueness and the photographic mastery of the presented names - Elias Armin, Dmitri Yermakov, Andrey Andreev, the Stoyan & Georgi Katsarovi, Georgi Danchov, Herman Hershkovich, Vaclav Velebni, Hristo Papuhchiev, Henry Bagdasaryan, Dimitar Karastoyanov and others.
The official opening will start with introductions from Assoc. Prof. Mihail Gruev, chairman of the State Agency for Archives, Dimitar Minev, director of the library, and compilers Dimitar Sevov, Grigor Hristev, Dr Petko Georgiev and Antoaneta Lesenska.
