"The Bulgarian Unification 1885" museum exhibition
/exhibition/
"The Bulgarian Unification 1885" museum exhibition was opened in 1985 on the occasion of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia – an event which became a national symbol of our new history. The exhibition encompasses the period from the signing of the Treaty of Berlin in 1878, which divided the lands populated by Bulgarians into five parts, to the Serbo-Bulgarian War of 1885. The main highlights are on the establishment and development of Eastern Rumelia as a second Bulgarian state, the preparation and the realisation of the Unification with the Principality of Bulgaria on 6 September 1885. The permanent exhibition Ninth Plovdiv Infantry Regiment in the National Unification Wars shows the preparation and participation of the soldiers from Princess Clementine’s regiment in the national unification wars.
The temporary exhibition Plovdiv in Bulgaria’s Cultural History presents arguments evidencing that in the last two centuries Plovdiv has been a spiritual centre of the Bulgarian lands and Bulgaria’s cultural capital.
The Bulgarian Unification in 1885 exhibition was designed by architect Pietro Montani and was one of his most significant artistic achievements. Over the years, the authentic appearance of the building has been preserved and it continues to be one of Plovdiv’s cultural centres.
