New Otets Paisiy Public Library – a project by Studio 8 ½.
The New Otets Paisiy Public Library is a reading space inside an old trolleybus located on the corner of Otets Paisiy St. and General Gurko St. Otets Paisiy St. was chosen partly because of its name – the 18th century Bulgarian monk who wrote the famous Istoriya Slavyanobulgarskaya – and partly because this is where the first trolleybuses in Plovdiv ran in the 1950s. The mobile library is placed right in front of the station which continues to power the city’s trolleybus network to this day. Studio 8 ½ is an artist platform founded by Arch. Vladislav Kostadinov in 2010. The studio’s portfolio includes projects in architecture, construction, interior and urban design.
The New Otets Paisiy Public Library is part of the platform Open Call for Projects of the Open Arts Foundation.
